Lucas Pascotti Valem

I currently work in a project aimed at creating a software to automatically detect and classify microfossils in thin sections of rocks (microscopic images) using AI. This project is funded by Petrobras.

Recently, I was a doctorate exchange student at Temple University (Philadelphia, PA, USA) as a Fulbright Scholar (Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad Award, 2022-2023). I'm a Computer Science PhD student at São Paulo State University (UNESP) since 2020. I received my Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science from the São Paulo State University (UNESP) in 2016. I obtained my Master's Degree in Computer Science from the same university in 2019 with the thesis “Unsupervised Selective Rank Fusion for Content-based Image Retrieval.”.

Among the awards, I received the Best Master's Thesis Award from the Workshop of Theses and Dissertations (WTD) in the SIBGRAPI' 19. My thesis was also recognized as the Second Best Dissertation in the 33rd Contest of Thesis and Dissertations (CTD), Congress of the Brazilian Computer Society (CSBC 2020).

I have experience in different areas of Computer Science, with special interest in information retrieval, image retrieval by content, machine learning, computer vision, deep learning, image processing, pattern recognition, and parallel computing. In my PhD research; I'm currently studying, investigating, and proposing strategies for person re-identification (Re-ID) in different scenarios.
